Everyone was given a certain set of genetic characteristics at birth. Some were lucky to have a “perfect smile”, while others can appear too gummy, or with teeth too short. In both cases, many find this embarrassing to live with.

There are several causes of a Gummy Smile. One of these is an overactive muscle in the upper lip, and doesn’t involve the gums or teeth at all. This can can be easily corrected. Dr. Berens can do a few simple Botox injections placed in strategic locations will prevent the upper lip from raising excessively high when you smile. Additionally, some people have an asymmetrical or irregular smile. Some part of the lips may be drooping lower or raised higher than the rest of the lips during smiling or laughing. This can also be corrected by Dr. Berens.
